Menus

The Navigation page lists your menus with their handle (the name themes use to find them) and how many items each has. Your store starts with default menus, typically a main menu for the header and one for the footer. A default menu's handle can't be changed, because the theme relies on it.

Click Create menu to add another, for example a “Legal” menu for your footer or a sidebar menu for a landing page.

Build a menu

1. Open the menu

   Click it in the list.

2. Add an item and choose what it links to

   Pick a type first, then the item:

   • Home page, Page, Product, Collection, Blog or Blog post
   • All products, All collections, Search or Contact
   • Web address: any URL, such as /about or https://example.com
   • Heading (no link): a label that only opens a dropdown

   The label fills in from what you picked; you can change it.

3. Drag to arrange

   Drag items up and down to reorder. Drag an item right, under another, to make it a child. Children show as a dropdown under their parent. Everything also works from the keyboard.

4. Fine-tune items (optional)

   Each item can have an icon, a badge (such as “New” or “Sale”), a short subtitle, Open in a new tab, and Visible on the storefront. Turn that off to hide an item without deleting it.

5. Save

   Changes apply to every page using the menu. Undo and redo are available while you edit.

Showing a menu on your site

Your header and footer sections choose which menu to display. In the page builder, click the header or footer and pick the menu in its settings. The mobile menu uses the same menu automatically.

Good menu structure

Keep the top level to around five to seven items. Put policies (Shipping, Returns, Privacy) in the footer menu.
