Joomni Studio

Design themes.
Ship them to real businesses.

Studio is the workspace where designers build website themes for Nepali businesses, publish them to the Joomni theme store, and earn a share of every install. No coding, nothing to pay, and you keep what you make.

Free to join · No plan required · No store needed

What Joomni Studio is

Four pieces, and the whole thing runs in your browser.

The same builder merchants use

Studio is not a separate design tool. You author themes in Joomni's own visual page builder — the identical sections, settings and renderers a merchant sees. Nothing can look right in Studio and break on a real shop.

A sandbox store to build against

A sandbox is a real Joomni store flagged as a dev store — free forever, never billed, no checkout, not indexed. It comes seeded with demo products, prices and images so your layouts have something real to render.

Review before anything goes live

Submitting freezes a snapshot of your theme. Automated checks run instantly, then a human reviews design quality and originality. Merchants only ever see what has passed both.

Install copies, it never links

When a merchant installs your theme it is deep-copied into their store. Later edits on your side never touch a live shop — which also means a mistake of yours can never break someone's business.

Free to start

Sandbox stores cost nothing and are never billed.

70% revenue share

You keep the majority of every sale, once paid themes open.

Built-in market

Every merchant on Joomni sees your theme in their store.

How it works

From signing up to published, five steps.

  1. Step 01

    Create your builder account

A Joomni account and a short application — who you are, and any work we can look at. A portfolio helps but is not required; students with nothing published yet are welcome, just tell us what you want to build.

  2. Step 02

    Get a free sandbox

You get a sandbox store the moment you apply, before approval. One while your application is pending, five once you are approved.

  3. Step 03

    Design your theme

Build in the visual page builder. Sections, colours, fonts, layouts, header and footer, and Liquid if you want dynamic markup. Preview it live as you go.

  4. Step 04

    Submit for review

Submitting takes a snapshot. Automated checks run instantly and tell you exactly what to fix. If they pass, a human reviews design quality and originality.

  5. Step 05

    Get published

Approved themes go live in the theme store and on your public profile at joomni.com/b/your-handle. Every merchant on Joomni can find and install them.

What you can and cannot ship

Worth reading before you start. Your theme runs on other people's shops, next to their customers' checkout — so the rules on code are strict, and they are enforced automatically when you submit.

Allowed

  • All 90+ built-in sections — heroes, product grids, galleries, menus, booking forms
  • Full control of colours, typography, spacing and layout
  • Liquid sections for custom markup with live store data
  • Images uploaded to the Joomni media library

Not allowed

  • Custom JavaScript, or any section that runs raw code
  • Custom-coded header and footer sections
  • Images hot-linked from other websites
  • Someone else’s design, template or copy

Why no JavaScript? A theme runs on a stranger's storefront, in the same browser session as their customers' logins and payments. We cannot review every line of third-party code for what it might do later, so we do not allow any. Liquid gives you dynamic content — product names, prices, collections — without that risk.

Students and colleges

You do not need work experience to join. If you are studying design, IT or anything adjacent, this is a way to build a real, public portfolio — with businesses actually using your work — while you are still in college.

We can also provision sandbox stores in bulk for a class or a bootcamp cohort, and run theme-building contests with prizes and featured placement. If you teach or run a programme, get in touch.

Questions

Do I need to know how to code?

No. The page builder is entirely visual. If you want more control, Liquid is available — it is a simple templating language, closer to writing HTML than programming. Plenty of approved themes use none of it.

What does it cost?

Nothing. Sandbox stores are free and never billed, and you do not need a paid Joomni plan to build or publish.

Do I need to open a store to become a builder?

No. A builder account is its own signup — no store name, no subdomain, no vertical to pick. If you already run a shop on Joomni you can use that same account; running a store and building themes are not exclusive.

How much do I earn?

Builders keep 70% of every sale, Joomni takes 30%. Paid themes are not switched on yet — the catalogue is free while we build the payout system, so early themes earn installs, ratings and reputation rather than cash. Your revenue share applies from the day paid themes open.

Why would I publish a free theme?

Install counts and ratings are public and attached to your name. A builder with five well-rated themes and a few hundred installs has something far more useful to show a client than a CV, and is first in line when paid themes open.

How long does review take?

Five business days. Builders at Verified tier — three approved themes and no policy strikes — get two.

What if my theme is rejected?

You get written feedback explaining why, and you can fix and resubmit as many times as you like. Rejection is not permanent, and it does not affect your account.

Who owns the theme?

You do. You license it to Joomni to host and sell. Merchants who have installed it keep a perpetual licence to keep using it even if you later remove it — their shop cannot break because you changed your mind.

Will updates I make change stores that already installed my theme?

No. Installing copies the theme into the merchant's own store. Nothing you publish afterwards touches a live shop.

Ready to build your first theme?

Signing up takes a few minutes, and you get a free sandbox store straight away — before we have even reviewed you.
